MUSC - Medical University of South Carolina

In 1985, the name of the hospital and its clinics was changed to MUSC Medical Center, reflecting its function in an academic health institution and its wide range of services to the public. This comprehensive facility is now comprised of three separate hospitals (the University Hospital, the Institute of Psychiatry, and the Children's Hospital). The Medical Center includes centers for specialized care (Heart Center, Transplantation Center, Hollings Cancer Center, Digestive Diseases Center). Numerous outpatient facilities include the Family Medicine Center, University Diagnostic Center, and affiliated faculty practice ambulatory care centers. In the past ten years, $200 million in capital improvements for the Medical Center focused resources on improved quality of patient care and accessibility of services. In 2003-04 there were over 27,000 inpatient admissions and almost 630,000 outpatient visits.

Whereas the first class conducted at the College contained about a dozen Charlestonians, the student body now numbers approximately 9,800 students, 70 percent of whom are South Carolinians; other students come from 50 states and 65 foreign countries. The Citadel : The Military College of South Carolina

Today the picturesque campus, which was moved in 1922 to the bank of the Ashley River, is home to 24 major buildings and 1,900 young men and women enrolled in 19 degree programs. The College of Graduate and Professional Studies (CGPS) offers evening and summer, coeducational undergraduate and graduate degree programs. U.S. News & World Report has consistently ranked The Citadel among the best colleges in the region in their annual surveys of "America's Best Colleges."
