 Your home deserves to be loved all year long. Here are some seasonal tips for taking care of your home in 2019.

Keep a check on your roofMaintain foundation, walls & floors. Check periodically for cracks or signs of stressClean or change air filters every monthKeep furnaces cleanKeep gutters clean and trim trees so they are at least 2 ft. away from guttersCheck for damaged or loose shingles

Winter

  • Change heating filters
  • On cold days keep the cabinets below sinks open to let warm air in & let faucets drip overnight to prevent pipes from freezing.
  • Invest in weather stripping to help seal warm air in and keep cold air out of your home
  • Clean your gutters
  • Trim trees and remove dead branches to prevent hazards

Spring

  • Ensure windows and doors function properly and lubricate where needed
  • Reseed your lawn
  • Plant new flowers, shrubs and tree and create a landscape plan
  • Put on a fresh coat of paint now that freezing temps are gone and before the hot temperatures take over
  • Check window and door seals to ensure any gaps from the cold weather have been sealed

Summer

  • Reverse your ceiling fans to flow counterclockwise. This pushes the air down, creating a nice breeze 
  • Create an irrigation plan for your lawn and flowers now that spring showers are gone
  • Make sure your porch or patio are in good repair for prime entertaining
  • Power wash your house
  • Clean off your grill and consider getting new patio furniture

Fall

  • Remove window air conditioners for winter or put weatherproof covers on them
  • Inspect for loose or missing seals. Find out if the windows are loose within their frames
  • Ensure caulking at doors, windows, and all other openings and joints between wood and masonry 
  • Check weather-stripping to ensure a tight fit
